The first house on tendto: a small surf house in Bali where people pay cash, book on WhatsApp and settle up at the bar in the evening. This is where tendto was born, and where every feature runs first.
Operations ran the way they run in most small houses: bookings in a spreadsheet, drinks on paper slips behind the bar, the cleaning plan in a group chat, surf sessions on a whiteboard. Each tool fine on its own, together a daily coordination tax.
Checkout made it most visible: to know what a guest still owed, someone had to combine the spreadsheet, the slips and memory. And whether a room was truly ready was, in the end, always answered by a walk down the corridor.
Today the whole day lives in one system: the calendar with rooms and dorm beds, the tab per guest at the bar, the housekeeping board that builds its own plan from departures, and the guest area where guests enter their arrival and order drinks to the room.
In the evening the cash shift counts expected against counted, and the message queue suggests what should go out on WhatsApp: tomorrow’s welcome, the reminder for an open deposit, the review request to yesterday’s departures. The system suggests, a person sends.
Remarkably little of it lands on the manager. The cleaning plan builds itself, the messages draft themselves, the close adds itself up. Whatever needs a decision shows up as a note on the dashboard, and all of it can be handled from a phone, from the beach or from another continent.
The calendar holds rooms and dorm beds in one view, every stay in its own lane.
The bar books onto the guest’s tab, the daily close settles by payment method.
The housekeeping board builds its plan from departures and turnovers, issues come with a photo.
The team works in its own language: the interface speaks seven, the guests their own.
“I built tendto because I needed it for Disini myself. Today managing the house is barely work: almost everything runs on its own, and the rest I handle from my phone, wherever I happen to be.”
